In Columbus onsite, the Senior Lead Cybersecurity Architect for Database Security will serve as the threat modeling subject matter expert and architecture leader for database platforms, shaping risk-reducing controls and acting as the escalation point for complex database security challenges. This role combines technical leadership with hands on control development in a regulated environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead structured threat modeling for database platforms and data flows, identifying attack surfaces and risk scenarios
  • Integrate threat modeling into the software development lifecycle and design reviews for database products
  • Conduct security architecture reviews for new deployments, migrations, and major changes to databases
  • Develop and optimize database security controls to achieve risk reduction outcomes
  • Evaluate emerging requirements including Model Context Protocol and post quantum cryptography for database encryption
  • Establish and govern database security standards and baselines using STIGs, CIS Benchmarks, and best practices
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and escalation point for IT Risk and Cyber teams related to database security
  • Monitor key risk indicators to identify, quantify, and communicate issues with recommended resolutions
  • Collaborate on audit, regulatory engagements, risk activities, and related projects

Requirements

  • Formal training or certification in security concepts and 10+ years of hands on experience with database technologies, including 5+ years focused on database security architecture
  • Deep expertise in at least two database platforms such as Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Cassandra, or cloud native databases
  • Proven threat modeling experience using STRIDE, attack trees, or equivalent methods applied to database scenarios
  • Strong understanding of database security controls including encryption at rest and in transit, access controls, audit logging, masking or tokenization, and network segmentation
  • Experience with STIGs and CIS Benchmarks for database hardening; ability to publish and track standards and translate findings into actionable engineering requirements
  • Background in a regulated environment with a three lines of defense model; financial services, healthcare, or similar
  • Experience with NoSQL database security patterns (Cassandra, MongoDB, DynamoDB)
  • Familiarity with cloud database security configurations (AWS RDS/Aurora, Azure SQL/Cosmos DB, GCP Cloud SQL)
  • Knowledge of post quantum cryptography readiness for database encryption
  • Experience with AI and ML data security, including securing training data, model outputs, and vector databases
  • Certifications such as CISSP, CISSP-ISSAP, and database vendor credentials (Oracle OCP, AWS Database Specialty, etc.)
  • Background in financial services consumer businesses (mortgages, cards, digital) preferred
