Job Description

The US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Office of Information and Technology (OIT) is seeking an IT Specialist (INFOSEC) to support and administer a complex information security program. The role focuses on privacy and security data breach response for PHI, PII, and SPI, including analysis and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.

Location and Schedule

  • Worksite: Salt Lake City, UT (onsite)
  • Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (tour of duty may change based on organizational needs)
  • Compressed/Flexible: Available at Supervisor's discretion
  • Telework: Ad Hoc, as determined by Agency Policy
  • Virtual: Not a virtual position

Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, and coordinate a unified VA position on information security related to Privacy and Security breaches involving Protected Health Information (PHI), Personally Identifiable Information (PII), and Sensitive Personal Information (SPI).
  • Coordinate VA Privacy and Security data breach program responses for external reporting requirements.
  • Perform data breach analysis using the Privacy and Security Events Tracking System (PSETS), including reviewing submissions, prioritizing relevant facts, assessing information provided, identifying errors or incomplete/inconsistent data, and addressing illogical arguments or conclusions.
  • Direct the planning, evaluation, and coordination of Privacy and Security breach issues across VA, including Administration and Staff offices.
  • Provide coordinated responses and follow-up actions to Privacy and Security data breach audits and external oversight organizations, and maintain secure files of responses and required actions.
  • Synchronize and reconcile VA responses to Federal-wide Privacy and Security breach initiatives and proposals.
  • Develop privacy training materials and other communications to improve employee understanding of company privacy policies, data handling practices and procedures, and legal obligations.

  • Information technology-related experience demonstrating all four competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade in the normal line of progression for the occupation
