American Airlines is seeking an Engineer/Senior Engineer, IT Aviation Cybersecurity to safeguard the digital aircraft ecosystem through rigorous risk analysis and cross-functional collaboration with internal IT, operations, and industry partners. This onsite role in Fort Worth, Texas focuses on protecting confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data across corporate, vendor, and customer environments while advancing the security of aviation technologies.

As a member of the Information Technology division, you will support the Cybersecurity Aviation team and help establish strong connections across key internal groups, including Avionics Engineering, Cabin Experience, Maintenance Technology, Government Affairs, Corporate Security, and Corporate Safety. What you'll do
- Apply cybersecurity expertise to drive research, planning, and architectural design of digital aircraft systems to protect data and ensure high availability across corporate, vendor, and customer domains.
- Define and deliver technical solutions, security requirements, and standards that align with industry practices and company technology standards across multiple security domains.
- Offer internal security consultation to teams supporting digital aircraft, ground, and communications systems.
- Support regulatory standards and compliance activities from a cybersecurity perspective for FAA and other governing bodies.
- Interface with industry counterparts such as Aviation-ISAC, IATA Cybersecurity Task Force, and oneworld partners.
- Assist with cyber-incidents related to American Airlines aviation technologies and produce artifacts supporting system reviews, software development, and QA for airline operations.
- Ensure digital aircraft systems and endpoints are scanned using vulnerability management tools and best practices.
- Coordinate with business units, IT teams, and IS Risk to remediate findings promptly while pursuing risk reduction objectives.
- Demonstrate a continuous improvement mindset and maintain effective problem solving, multitasking, coordination, and scheduling to preserve visibility and predictability.
- Occasionally work extended hours and travel as needed, with advance planning.
All you’ll need for success
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, IT Security, Network Systems Technology or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience
- 5 years of experience in security technology design
- 5 years of experience developing network, server, and application systems
Preferred qualifications
- 5 years designing, deploying, and managing PKI and cryptographic solutions
- 5 years hands-on experience with Identity and Access management solutions
- 3 years of experience with Network Security and VPN solutions
- 4+ years of experience in NIST 800-series frameworks
- Proficiency in application coding and scripting (Python, SQL, BASH, PowerShell)
- Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CISA, CEH; GIAC aviation-aligned certs (GCIA, GCFA, GMON, GCTI); Microsoft/Azure security credentials (AZ-500, SC-100); and Zero Trust-focused GIAC certs (GDAT)
