Job Description

Vertage is hiring a Backend Software Engineer III contract role in the United States (hybrid). This position is focused on cybersecurity and cryptographic backend systems, supporting secure APIs and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) capabilities for connected vehicle ecosystems. You will work across design, development, and ongoing maintenance of cryptographic services, with deployments that span cloud and on-premises Kubernetes environments.

Working hybrid in Dearborn, MI (4 days onsite per week), you will contribute to security controls and delivery practices that include testing, security assessments, and CI/CD initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain secure backend applications, APIs, and microservices.
  • Build and support PKI and key management solutions, including certificate issuance, lifecycle management, revocation, and encryption services.
  • Develop integrations with Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) using PKCS#11.
  • Implement security controls using OAuth, mTLS, and encryption technologies.
  • Design and support RESTful services for:
    • Certificate Management
    • CRL / OCSP Services
    • ACME Integrations
    • Software Signing
    • Key Rotation
    • Encryption / Decryption Services
  • Deploy and support applications in cloud and on-premises Kubernetes environments.
  • Participate in architecture design, code reviews, testing, security assessments, and CI/CD initiatives.
  • Collaborate with product owners, architects, and business stakeholders to deliver secure solutions.
  • Monitor application performance, reliability, security, and compliance.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of IT experience
  • 4+ years of hands-on software engineering experience
  • Strong experience with object-oriented programming and secure coding practices
  • Experience building and supporting customer-facing applications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Professional working proficiency in English

Cybersecurity engineering expectations for this role are listed at the Intermediate level, including .NET Core, OpenShift, X.509, Public Key Infrastructure, Kubernetes, microservices, MongoDB, application programming interface, certificate management, and network architecture.
