Job Description

IT Security Engineer supporting a DC Government client for AHU Technologies Inc, based in Washington, DC with a hybrid schedule (1 day in office per week) and an hourly rate of USD 85-90.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement short and long term strategic plans to ensure network capacity meets current and future requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and training plans for network resource administration and appropriate use.
  • Develop and deploy methodologies for testing network performance and delivering performance statistics and reports.
  • Research emerging technologies to support network development and recommend cost effective, flexible options.
  • Create, document, and communicate plans for investing in network technologies, including cost reduction analysis.
  • Participate in developing network strategies in collaboration with the executive team.
  • Research and recommend products, services, protocols, and standards for network procurement and development.
  • Ensure network services have sufficient capacity, stability, and agility to satisfy service level agreements with business units.
  • Create and maintain documentation related to network configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
  • Plan, acquire, and coordinate installation of in-house and remote network devices and appliances across the organization.
  • Research and make recommendations on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.
  • Design enterprise LANs, WANs, WLANs, VPNs, virtual networks, and wireless networks, including servers, routers, hubs, switches, UPSs, and other devices.
  • Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
  • Interact with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.
  • Recommend improvements or alternatives to the companys existing systems architecture and technology portfolio.
  • Review new and existing network design projects and procurement or outsourcing plans for compliance with standards and architectural plans.
  • Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with executives, decision-makers, stakeholders, department heads, and end users regarding network activities.
  • Conduct feasibility studies for upgrade projects, improvements, and conversions.
  • Configure networks to ensure their smooth and reliable operation aligned with business objectives.
  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed.
  • Oversee installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end-user workstation hardware, software, and peripheral devices.
  • Ensure network connectivity of all servers, workstations, telephony equipment, fax machines, and other network appliances.
  • Manage servers, including database, email, print, and backup servers and their associated operating systems and software.
  • Practice network asset management, including maintenance of inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
  • Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports.
  • Participate in managing all network security solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in IT or Computer Science.
  • Equivalent combination of education and 15 years of relevant work experience.
  • Cisco certification in specialized areas is required.
  • 10 years of experience managing, developing, and delivering strategic network architectural design and operational excellence.
  • 10 years of experience designing enterprise-wide LANs, WANs, WLANs, VPNs, VMs, virtual networks, etc.
  • Excellent knowledge of current protocols and standards.
  • Experience designing and implementing routers, switches, firewalls, and security software.
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong knowledge of scaled systems, ability to identify problem areas, uphold network quality, and drive design.
  • Expert in WAN, LAN, and Wi-Fi technology.
  • Strong knowledge of IT security requirements and experience working with information security.
  • Experience with Lean IT concepts.
  • Experience with Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL).
