Job Description

Brigham Young University seeks an Adjunct Faculty coach to mentor a cybersecurity capstone team and support capstone design education onsite in Provo, UT.

Responsibilities

Work with an assigned student team of 5–7 members to help students learn the capstone design process and successfully complete the assigned project.
Guide the team in choosing and applying an appropriate project structure, workflow, and design process based on project nature, technical requirements, deliverables, timeline, and sponsor expectations.
Learn and share Capstone policies with the student team.
Coach and mentor students throughout the capstone lifecycle.
Attend Capstone lectures, weekly team meetings, and Capstone faculty coach meetings.
Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the project sponsor.
Help teams maintain realistic scope, timelines, and deliverables throughout the project.
Support students in understanding how general course requirements apply to their specific project.
Assist students in building professional soft skills and collaborating effectively as a team.
Spend an average of 3 hours per week between 8–10 am M–F coaching engineering students.
Support the mission of Brigham Young University and align coaching with BYU policies.

Requirements

BS degree in cybersecurity, computer science, engineering, or a related field (required).
MS degree preferred.
The required degree must be completed by the start date.
Demonstrated success within career.
Interest and passion for the design education process are required.
In the cover letter, include an experience teaching young students how to design and work in teams on a project.
Attach an updated curriculum vitae, cover letter, and Mission Alignment Statement as instructed in the application.

Responsibilities

Analyze phishing reports, alerts, and suspicious activity to support timely detection and response.
Collect and preserve evidence related to cybersecurity incidents.
Perform vendor and application security reviews.
Develop reports, metrics, and dashboards to support decision-making.
Coordinate with Information Systems and City departments to address security concerns.
Support cybersecurity awareness and training initiatives.
Conduct cybersecurity incident investigations, analysis, and documentation.
Maintain cybersecurity playbooks, procedures, and documentation.
Identify, track, and report cybersecurity risks and vulnerabilities.

Schedule and Operational Expectations

This position has continuity and operational expectations. It serves as backup for operational cybersecurity functions during staff absences or incident surge conditions, and may perform incident investigation and coordination activities as needed. The role requires maintaining sufficient familiarity with procedures and escalation guidelines to support uninterrupted cybersecurity operations.

Selection Process
