Job Description

Join the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Headquarters to help advance homeland security mission outcomes through secure, effective technology and capabilities. This onsite role supports the Science & Technology Directorate, Homeland Security Advanced Research Projects Agency, where you will provide leadership and technical direction to strengthen agency operational effectiveness. The position is offered at GS-2210-15 (Supervisory IT Specialist) with a salary range of USD 169,279 to 197,200 per year in Washington, DC.

What you will do

You will lead and manage efforts that improve cybersecurity posture and the secure delivery of technologies, systems, and capabilities. Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide strategic leadership and division direction by setting goals, objectives, and priorities that optimize mission effectiveness and support a high-performance work environment.
  • Lead and carry out cyber risk assessment processes, including penetration testing, vulnerability scanning, and evaluation of security controls to identify, document, and help mitigate threats to agency systems and data.
  • Deliver expert technical guidance and troubleshooting for advanced hardware, software, and network issues, including installation, configuration, and preventative maintenance of networking and telecommunication equipment.
  • Represent the division in stakeholder meetings, briefings, and public forums, communicating program goals, progress, and outcomes.

Eligibility and requirements

  • You must be a U.S. citizen to apply.

  • You must submit to a pre-employment drug test. This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is subject to random testing.
  • You may be required to serve a one-year supervisory probationary period.

  • Your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet the competency and experience requirement; otherwise, you may be found ineligible.
  • To qualify for the GS-15 level, you must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-14, in Federal service or equivalent private/public sector experience. Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level.
  • All qualifications and eligibility requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement.
  • Current General Schedule (GS) federal employees (and those who served in GS positions within the last 52 weeks) must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade (or a combination of the next lower grade and an equivalent band) by the closing of the announcement.
  • For current or former political appointees, OPM must authorize employment offers; disclosure is required if you were in certain Executive Branch appointment categories within the last 5 years.
  • Selected applicants must undergo and successfully pass a Top Secret background investigation as a condition of placement in this Special Sensitive position. The review may include financial issues (such as delinquent debts, child support, and/or tax obligations) and certain criminal offenses, as well as illegal use or possession of drugs.
