Senior Network Security Engineer
Job Description
Join a mission-critical team as a Senior Network Security Engineer in San Antonio, TX. This onsite role offers a competitive salary of $115,000 to $140,000 per year and the opportunity to support a key government contract, securing both Azure government cloud and on-premises networks. The position requires U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain Tier 3/ Level II IT Security Clearance after offer, and a Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience. You will design, operate, and protect IT network infrastructure using Cisco Nexus and Catalyst switches, Checkpoint security, and F5 load balancers.
The role emphasizes hands-on work with critical network components and ongoing security monitoring and incident response, with a focus on reliability and compliance within a government context.
Responsibilities
- Maintains data network hardware and systems including Azure and Cisco on-premise networks.
- Investigates and resolves significant network and hardware issues; researches, analyzes, isolates, and resolves errors.
- Assesses and evaluates current and future systems.
- Monitors the IPS system for network intrusions and responds to incidents.
- Ensures IPS system and signatures are kept up-to-date.
- Designs networks on-premises or in the Azure government cloud in line with project requirements and architectural principles.
- Develops and monitors key network metrics for IT reviews, reporting, and monitoring.
- Implements VPN and firewall rule and web filtering changes.
- Performs hardware and software upgrades of network infrastructure such as Cisco switches, Checkpoint firewalls, and F5 load balancers.

- Microsoft Azure Networking (Virtual networks, Routing, Subnets, Express Route, VPN, Network Security Groups)
- Networking Protocols/Concepts (Routing, VLAN, Subnetting, Load balancing, TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, TLS, SSH)
- Script experience a plus - PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar
- Goal and results oriented
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple competing demands
- Comfortable with ambiguity
- 5+ years designing, building, and operating networks
- 5+ years Checkpoint Security
- 5+ years Cisco networking
- 10+ years in IT
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Information Security, or equivalent plus 4 years additional experience in network security engineering
- Cisco Certified Network Associate
- Azure Network Engineer Associate preferred
- US citizen able to obtain Tier 3/ Level II IT Security Clearance after offer and maintain clearance after onboarding
- English proficiency

- On-call/after-hours support required as needed
