Job Description

Join the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Cybersecurity Service in Springfield, Virginia, for a senior leadership role that shapes the nation’s cyber defense. This on-site position places you at the helm of DHS information security strategy as the Chief Information Security Officer and Deputy Chief Information Security Officer, directing programs across DHS networks. Responsibilities

  • As CISO, serve as the principal cybersecurity advisor to the CIO and lead the statutory DHS Information Security Program.
  • Design and oversee DHS information security strategy, ensuring compliance with FISMA, Clinger-Cohen, OMB directives, and other federal mandates.
  • Direct strategic planning, workforce development, and multi-year IT investments that drive department-wide programs protecting national security.
  • As DCISO, support the CISO in executing the security strategy, oversee Headquarters cybersecurity operations, and ensure continuous protection of DHS information assets.
  • Advise senior DHS leadership and steer enterprise cybersecurity strategy, policy, risk management, and operations.
  • Lead and enhance the DHS information security program to maintain full federal compliance.
  • Steer long-range planning and implementation of cybersecurity operations, including security engineering, risk management, and cyber defense.
  • Coordinate security programs across DHS components to foster a unified, risk-driven approach.
  • Champion the adoption of emerging technologies, including AI, to stay ahead of evolving threats.
  • Build, inspire, and lead large multidisciplinary teams, promoting innovation and operational excellence.
  • Forge partnerships with government, industry, and international stakeholders to expand DHS cyber capabilities.
  • Ensure confidentiality, integrity, and availability of DHS information systems supporting national security.
  • Communicate and implement strategic plans, priorities, and initiatives across the Department.
  • Represent DHS as the principal information security liaison with external organizations and in key forums.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizen or national, 18 years of age or older.
  • Registered for Selective Service if male.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret/SCI security clearance.
  • Successful completion of a drug test and a negative result.
  • Compliance with ethics and standards of conduct requirements, including applicable financial disclosure.
  • Possible 3-year probationary period.
  • Minimum 15+ years of cybersecurity experience and 5+ years in executive leadership.
  • Proven ability to lead expansive, high-impact cybersecurity programs at enterprise scale.
  • Seasoned executive capable of overseeing national cybersecurity initiatives across multi-level organizations, reporting to presidential appointees.
