Network Engineer IV - Infrastructure and Cybersecurity

Senior Network Engineer IV in the City of Norfolk's Department of Information Technology leads the network engineering team, maintains and optimizes the City’s network infrastructure, and ensures reliable, secure, and resilient operations across departments, on site in Norfolk, VA, with a salary range of USD 84,781 to 142,039 per year.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor the IT team, providing direction and performance management to sustain efficient operations and ongoing improvement of the City’s network infrastructure.
• Oversee monitoring, fault analysis, and timely restoration of network issues, outages, and service degradations.
• Coach IT staff on emerging technologies and industry best practices.
• Create and maintain thorough documentation for configurations, policies, and procedures.
• Support the development and execution of disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity and data protection.
• Foster cross-team collaboration with cybersecurity, applications, and public safety groups to ensure aligned operations.
• Oversee network upgrade projects, lifecycle initiatives, and replacements such as switch refreshes, cabling, and WAN improvements.
• Partner with the cybersecurity team to ensure network configurations meet security standards, incident response requirements, and access control policies.
• Evaluate technical proposals, statements of work, and vendor documentation for network-related projects.

Requirements

• Must pass a drug screening and a comprehensive criminal background investigation.
• Hold a valid driver’s license issued in Norfolk, Virginia.
• Reside within one hour of the City of Norfolk.
• Be able to report to Norfolk city offices regularly and within one hour of notification of events or emergencies.
• Available for a 24-hour on-call rotation and emergency response as required.
• Be prepared to report to duty during emergencies or natural disasters and to work unusual shifts and hours.
