Overview
Location: Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA (onsite). This IT Specialist (INFOSEC/NETWORK) position operates under the DHA Direct Hire Authority for DoD personnel, providing a direct path to federal employment.
Responsibilities
- Analyze network usage, traffic interruptions, hardware and software capabilities, and other factors to inform operations.
- Identify adverse trends, ineffective practices, and equipment shortcomings, reporting findings promptly.
- Recommend methods and procedures and coordinate corrective actions to optimize current equipment utilization.
- Develop plans to support network growth and capacity planning.
- Assist in troubleshooting efforts for a user base exceeding 10,000 users.
- Prepare and coordinate projects, cost comparisons, status reports, requirements documentation, risk analyses, and related technical records as needed.
Requirements
- US Citizens only.
- Education: Either a degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, technology management, or a related field with at least 24 semester hours in one or more of these areas, including development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks; or an equivalent graduate educational background.
- Specialized Experience: At least one year at the GS-09 level or equivalent, involving IT support operations, monitoring equipment to locate and resolve network incidents and vulnerabilities, and ensuring adherence to information systems policies and procedures.
- Education additional pathway: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a degree in Computer Science, Information Science, or Technology Management, from accredited institutions with at least 24 semester hours in relevant fields.
- Eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment, including a background investigation and credit check.
- Immunization requirements: Hepatitis B immunization for positions with direct patient contact, plus other immunizations as applicable.
- Seasonal influenza vaccination is mandatory unless exempt for medical or religious reasons (documentation required at hire).
- TB testing is required.
- Mission Essential designation applies; you must report to work as scheduled during severe weather or emergencies to support mission operations.
- Pre-employment and ongoing medical examinations are required to ensure fitness for duty.
- On-call work during irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, or holidays, may be required for emergencies.
- Travel requirements ( TDY ) to various locations may apply, with travel by private vehicles, public transport, or military assets.
Education
Foreign education: If you completed education outside the United States, you must have credentials evaluated by a recognized organization to confirm equivalence to U.S. education, or have full credit granted by an accredited U.S. institution.
