Information Security Specialist (INFOSEC)
Job Description
The Information Security Specialist role sits within the US Office of the Chief Information Officer, campus-based in Washington, DC, with two vacancies to fill. You will help steer the agency’s IT security posture under the OCIO, working in the GSA IT environment and supporting the ISSO function within the ISC division. This position emphasizes planning, execution, and oversight of security programs aligned to FISMA requirements.
Responsibilities
- Assist in leading efforts to plan, develop, and maintain an agency-wide IT security program in accordance with FISMA.
- Help ensure that all laws, regulations, policies, and procedures related to IT security are implemented within GSA on a nationwide basis.
- Provide technical solutions and guidance for IT security implementation.
- Address IT security concerns and facilitate IT security solutions for the agency.
- Participate in conducting and managing independent evaluations and compliance reviews of OCIO IT systems in accordance with FISMA.
- Perform POA&M reviews.
- Review security authorization packages.
- Participate in Exhibit 300 reviews.
- Lead vulnerability assessments and scanning activities.
- Conduct system configuration and inventory reviews.
- Serve as Subject Matter Expert for GSA’s mobile device program and support the CISO in policy development, security, and implementation.
- Expertise across Apple iOS, Google Android, and BlackBerry platforms.
- Responsible for CIO contingency event (COOP) planning, training, exercises, and management of actual event scenarios.
- Coordinate with senior management and other offices to ensure IT support is available and resources are allocated during events.
- Coordinate reporting for Security Advisory Alerts, compliance reviews, security training, incident reports, contingency plan testing, and other IT security program issues.
- Support security measures and goals established by the GSA Chief Information Security Officer.
Requirements
- US Citizenship or National (including residents of American Samoa and Swains Island).
- Meet all eligibility requirements within 30 days of the closing date.
- Register with Selective Service if male born after 12/31/1959.
- Direct Deposit of salary to a financial organization is required.
- Current or Former Political Appointees: OPM authorization and disclosure if applicable; failure to disclose could lead to disciplinary action.
- One-year probationary period, if required.
- Undergo and pass a Tier 2 background investigation.
- Complete a financial disclosure report to verify no conflict of interest.
- Participate in the Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP), including meetings, planning activities, and mission-critical work at an alternate location if needed.
- Identity and work status eligibility verified via DHS e-Verify; discrepancies must be resolved.
- One year of specialized IT security experience equivalent to GS-13 or higher in the federal service.
- IT-related experience demonstrating attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem solving.

USD 131,342 - 187,093 per year
