Cybersecurity Specialist

San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) is recruiting a Cybersecurity Specialist to provide program-level leadership across advanced cybersecurity services for SDCOE and supported local educational agencies. This onsite role focuses on coordinating key capabilities in incident response, vulnerability management, cybersecurity training, and enterprise phishing simulation through Red Herring.

Within complex technical environments, the selected candidate will use independent judgment to guide strategy, coordinate program efforts, and exercise professional discretion while overseeing essential security functions for the education community.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, coordinate, and oversee advanced cybersecurity functions for SDCOE and supported local educational agencies
• Provide program-level leadership in incident response
• Provide program-level leadership in vulnerability management
• Provide program-level leadership in cybersecurity training
• Provide program-level leadership in enterprise phishing simulation services (Red Herring)
• Use independent judgment, strategic coordination, and professional discretion in the execution of program activities

Minimum Qualifications

• Education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in information technology, computer science, or a closely related field
• 3 years of progressively responsible experience in cybersecurity
• Experience that includes work within complex technical environments related to network security, application development, computer system support, or closely related areas

Salary

USD 102,737 - 124,885 per yearly

Certifications and Licenses

GSOC, GCIH, and CEH certifications in Security Essentials or incident handling are highly desirable.

Selection Process

• Results will be used to establish an eligibility list to fill the current vacancy and any other vacancies in this classification for the next six (6) months, or until the list is terminated

Employment Conditions: Employment with SDCOE is contingent upon successful completion of a post-offer background check and physical exam, including a drug screening.
