Job Description
Columbia, MD onsite Cybersecurity Specialist role focused on safeguarding digital assets through comprehensive security measures.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement security protocols aligned with ISO 27001, NIST, and FIPS to protect data and IT infrastructure.
- Perform vulnerability assessments, security risk analyses, and security assessments to identify threats and weaknesses in network systems.
- Configure and manage cybersecurity tools including SIEM, IDS, EDR, and firewalls such as Cisco ASA, plus VPN solutions to monitor and respond to security events.
- Oversee network security operations covering LAN/WAN architecture, routing protocols like OSPF or BGP, IPsec VPNs, and related network support activities to ensure robust connectivity and protection.
- Lead incident response activities, including threat detection and response, incident management, system hardening, disaster recovery planning, and recovery procedures.
- Administer identity and access management processes using LDAP, SSO, RBAC, GPO, and other authentication methods to enforce secure user access.
- Collaborate with cross functional teams on cloud security engineering projects spanning AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform, PaaS, IaaS, VMware, and virtualization technologies to secure cloud infrastructure.
Requirements
- Extensive knowledge of networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Ethernet, VLANs, load balancing, network architecture, and management tools such as SolarWinds or PRTG.
- Proficiency configuring and managing cybersecurity tools such as SIEM platforms (Splunk or New Relic), Cisco ISE for NAC, Cisco routers and switches, Juniper devices, and open source IDS like Snort or Suricata.
- Strong understanding of operating systems including Windows Server, Linux distributions (such as Debian or CentOS), macOS, Ubuntu, OpenSUSE, Solaris or BSD variants.
- Experience with SSPs, system hardening using SELinux or similar Linux/Unix frameworks.
- Familiarity with encryption technologies including PKI and SSL/TLS protocols for secure communications.
- Knowledge of cloud security best practices and cloud architecture principles in AWS or Azure environments.
- Ability to perform vulnerability research and management with tools like Nessus or Qualys; conduct threat intelligence analysis; execute security risk assessments; and comply with standards such as PCI DSS or FISMA.
