Job Description

The Network Security Engineer Technical Lead role on Freddie Mac’s Security Perimeter team within Enterprise Network Services focuses on engineering and automation for firewall and secure perimeter activities across on-prem and cloud environments. This position is onsite in Dallas, TX and participates in a monthly on-call rotation.

Role Overview

As the technical lead for the Security Perimeter team, you will partner with internal stakeholders who use the business services you support, driving timely responses to recurring and ad hoc requests. You will also lead automation efforts using scripting to support new application implementations and operational changes across perimeter controls.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the business team by responding to daily requests in a timely manner.
  • Improve audit evidence gathering and streamline evidence capturing processes.
  • Manage and execute tasks from a business request queue for timely completion.
  • Advise on current perimeter configurations and upcoming changes.
  • Execute assigned tasks to completion.

Required Qualifications

  • Typically 8 to 10 years of related professional IT experience, including extensive expertise in implementation and administration of firewalls, especially Palo Alto Networks firewalls and other secure perimeter applications.
  • Deep understanding of Palo Alto firewall configurations, policies, and best practices.
  • Proficiency in scripting and programming languages including Python, Perl, YAML, and PowerShell.
  • Extensive experience with AWS security and CloudFormation Templates (CFT).
  • Strong Linux skills.
  • Proven networking and troubleshooting experience, with a focus on Palo Alto Networks products.
  • Expertise in supporting encryption and/or security appliance devices.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks independently without direct management oversight.
  • Competence in providing clear, documented status updates to management and team members.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills with effectiveness under tight deadlines.
  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Equivalent professional experience acceptable; advanced studies or degree preferred.
  • Monthly on-call rotation is required.
  • Ability to assist with troubleshooting firewall tickets.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with infrastructure automation platforms such as Ansible and Terraform.
  • Understanding of Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.

Compensation and Employment Details

  • Annual Salary Range: USD 146,000 - 218,000
  • Incentive Program: Eligible to participate in the annual incentive program
  • Employment Type: Full time
  • FLSA Status: Exempt
