Network Information Security Engineer/Analyst
Job Description
Alpine School District offers an onsite contract role for a Network Information Security Engineer/Analyst in American Fork, UT. This position emphasizes safeguarding the district’s network, servers, devices, and data in line with IT guidelines and governance. You will work with technology leadership on security operations and incident response, with ongoing opportunities for data security education and professional growth. The role includes a competitive hourly range and requires a Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance as part of the hiring process.
Responsibilities
- Advise on account security features and configurations, including protocols and security options for technology purchases, to strengthen district security
- Conduct security tests, review results, and recommend best practices in collaboration with the Technology leadership team across OSI layers to identify vulnerabilities
- Investigate and document security breaches and incidents to prevent recurrence
- Maintain manual and electronic records such as permissions, network IDs, security access, licenses, and work logs for reference and audit trails
- Monitor network security systems to ensure vulnerabilities are addressed and threat hunting activities are carried out
- Participate in and advise on security decisions for network devices, servers, user data, antivirus and malware protection, and email security, contributing to procedures and policies
- Attend meetings, workshops, and trainings to convey and gather information required for job performance
- Perform initial security assessments of servers, switches, and routers including installation, testing, configuration, password assignment, security clearances, and imaging
- Prepare written materials such as procedures, documentation, reports, and memos to document activities and provide reference
- Provide training and in-service on general computer use, security, software applications, and file server operations
- Research current and emerging technologies to inform the district’s technology needs
- Respond to help requests, repairs, training, and potential upgrades by phone or email to share information and schedule or refer resources
- Respond to inquiries from district personnel to provide support and operational assistance
- Advise the Student Data Security Committee to ensure proper protocols protect student data
- Work with IT support staff district-wide to monitor security of enterprise systems and identify vulnerable threat vectors

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a job related area
- Job related experience within information systems and data security
- Ability to teach technical topics to non-technical audiences

- Knowledge of current generation and legacy operating and networking systems (Windows, MAC, Novell)
- Computer hardware, network and troubleshooting techniques
