Job Description

The IT Specialist (InfoSec) role at the U.S. Office of Inspector General supports the agency’s information security programs across IT infrastructure. The position involves planning, implementing, and maintaining security for systems, networks, cloud environments, applications, and data, with a focus on engineering operations and modernization within federal cybersecurity standards.

This role contributes to the Technology Directorate by applying security engineering principles, managing identity and access, encryption, continuous monitoring, and automation, while supporting cloud modernization and digital transformation aligned with organizational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the Technology Directorate's IT engineering operations, including security configuration and implementation of servers, cloud systems, storage, virtual infrastructure, network devices, enterprise platforms, and management software
  • Supports cybersecurity operations for IT networks, systems, and cloud platforms by applying cybersecurity policies and security engineering principles, including identity and access management, encryption, continuous monitoring, secure configuration, and automation, following established procedures
  • Contributes to the analysis, planning, and support of the OIG's enterprise IT framework; provides input to cloud modernization, automation initiatives, and digital transformation efforts in alignment with organizational goals
  • Supports the planning, design, implementation, optimization, and maintenance of networked and cloud systems

Requirements

  • Minimum Qualifications GS-12: at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-11
  • Specialized experience includes: Assisting with the secure configuration, automation, monitoring, and management of enterprise IT infrastructure including cloud services, virtualization, networking, access management, encryption, and security monitoring in accordance with federal cybersecurity standards and best practices
  • Specialized experience includes: Supporting the governance, modernization, and security of enterprise IT and communications services by utilizing cloud-native technologies and assisting with risk mitigation efforts and compliance with federal authorization requirements
  • Specialized experience includes: Supporting executive briefings, participating in multidisciplinary teams, and contributing to collaboration and information sharing among stakeholders to advance IT modernization, cybersecurity, and cloud transformation projects
