IT CYBERSECURITY SPECIALIST (NETWORK/INFOSEC)
Job Description
The US Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) is seeking an IT Cybersecurity Specialist (Network/InfoSec) to provide technical and analytical support for DISA J6 networked systems. The role supports test and evaluation, contributes to procurement documentation inputs, and helps validate security and operational requirements within the DISA J6/C4 Enterprise Directorate.
Role Overview
This position is recruited under 10 USC 1599f into the Cyber Excepted Service and is located at Norfolk, VA (onsite). It operates within DISA J6/C4 Enterprise Directorate DKADAP-IT3H2 and supports mission needs identified to carry out and support the mission of US Cyber Command.
Salary: USD 115,475 - 157,818 per year. Experience requirement: 1 year. Education note: No substitution of education for the qualifying experience at the GG-13 grade level.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical and analytical support for DISA J6 networked systems, including server, desktop, and storage systems, to assist leadership in validating, refining, and documenting operational requirements and constraints.
- Coordinate with operations technicians and project teams to plan and provide technical oversight for installation, operational testing, and final checkout prior to turnover to operations.
- Develop and implement an exhaustive Test and Evaluation approach, including test elements, test procedures, and test set-ups to measure and validate system performance.
- Contribute technical information that informs procurement documentation, including materiel design and performance specifications, statements of work for design and technical support services, and related quality standards.
- Define and document technical information used to support system design and performance specifications, as well as acquisition and life cycle support budgets, while meeting operational and security requirements.
- Actively solicit feedback from operators and administrators to understand network operations and identify operational issues that could affect effectiveness, reliability, and maintainability.
Required Qualifications and Eligibility
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.
- This is a national security position that may require access to classified information and therefore requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance as a condition of employment; failure to maintain eligibility may result in termination.
- Per the DoD 8140 policy series, the position requires completion of Foundational Qualifications within 9 months and Residential Qualification requirements overall within 12 months.
- Demonstrated competency in Attention to Detail, including review of IT-related work/data for accuracy, completeness, and standard alignment, including review of others’ work.
- Demonstrated competency in Customer Service, including building and maintaining relationships, assessing current and future IT needs, and developing or identifying IT products/services tailored to customer needs.
- Demonstrated competency in Oral Communication, including briefing senior-level management and IT staff and communicating complex technical information to a non-technical audience.
- Demonstrated competency in Problem Solving, including identifying alternatives for unique, highly complex, or sensitive IT issues and evaluating potential sources of information to generate solutions.
Qualifying experience definition: Maintaining, designing, and configuring networks, monitoring network performance, and ensuring security compliance. In addition, IT-related experience must demonstrate the competencies described above (Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving) as outlined in the vacancy announcement.

Service Details and Employment Conditions
- This Excepted Service position is recruited under 10 U.S.C. 1599f into the Cyber Excepted Service and does NOT convey eligibility to be converted to the Competitive Service.
- The role is in the Professional Work Category at the Senior Work Level within the CES Occupational Structure.
- Shift work required. Shift hours: 1st shift (XXXX - XXXX), 2nd shift (XXXX - XXXX) and 3rd shift (XXXX - XXXX).
- Telework availability is based on mission requirements and supervisory determination.
- A three-year trial period may be required if not previously completed in excepted or competitive service.
- Drug testing: individuals in drug testing designated positions will be required to submit to urinalysis for illegal drugs prior to appointment or placement.
- Moving costs MAY be paid, and recruitment, relocation, or retention incentives MAY be authorized.
- PPP application based preference eligibles receive priority consideration at the full performance level only.
