Job Description

MSR Technology Group is seeking an Industrial Cybersecurity Consultant to join its Security Operations Center team in Kansas City, MO with remote work options. This role blends real-time security monitoring and incident response with project-based cybersecurity consulting, focusing on industrial control environments.

Position Overview

The Industrial Cybersecurity Consultant will be an integral member of a Security Operations Center (SOC) team, handling both operational duties and advisory engagements. This role merges real-time security monitoring and incident response with project-based cybersecurity consulting for industrial environments. The consultant will support ICS and OT security projects, perform vulnerability assessments and penetration testing, and contribute to compliance efforts aligned with frameworks such as NIST CSF and RMF. Location: Kansas City, Missouri, with remote work options.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor, triage, and analyze security events, assess alerts, and prioritize incidents for remediation.
  • Document actionable recommendations in the case management system to drive timely closure.
  • Join client discussions for incident response or escalation when required.
  • Deliver cybersecurity consulting across planning, design, development, and implementation of technical controls, procedures, and policies to meet cybersecurity compliance and regulatory standards.
  • Perform network penetration tests and vulnerability assessments on IT and OT networks to verify security and regulatory compliance.
  • Carry out post-event analysis of unusual incidents and suggest procedural improvements.
  • Develop policies and procedures for secure process control network design, providing technical recommendations for firewalls and other security controls.
  • Prepare technical documentation of network traffic and firewall services, including diagrams and explanations.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and client stakeholders to resolve technical issues and clearly communicate implications.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of all client and project information.
  • Comply with all applicable policies and standards.

Job Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of related experience in cybersecurity operations and consulting.
  • Certifications: Security+ preferred; other advanced certifications are a plus.
  • Advanced knowledge of security principles and cybersecurity technologies.
  • Experience with vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and associated tools and techniques.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity controls including firewalls, access control, authentication, antivirus/anti-malware, patching, and logging.
  • Knowledge of control systems used in utilities, manufacturing, oil and gas, transportation, smart buildings, and urban infrastructure.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for client interaction and reporting.
  • Ability to operate under pressure and meet tight deadlines in industrial, corporate, and government environments.
  • Understanding of business principles and operational security practices specific to engineering and security consulting.
  • Strong technical writing skills and knowledge of modern and legacy networking and telecommunications.
  • Experience with physical cabling for network communications and control system I/O.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain access to client sites, including U.S. security clearances where required.
