Director Cybersecurity, Assurance Services

In this onsite role in Seattle, WA, you will lead the assurance direction of enterprise-wide cybersecurity programs for Starbucks. The position focuses on planning, coordination, and continuous improvement across application security, enterprise vulnerability management, and red team operations, with measurable outcomes and transparent reporting to stakeholders.

Role overview

You will provide leadership for multiple cybersecurity teams and help build organizational capability through clear operating practices and strong leadership behaviors aligned to Starbucks Mission and Values. The work includes defining performance indicators, delivering a world class cybersecurity assurance program, and partnering across teams to strengthen operational security capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Set goals for the work group, develop organizational capability, and model how teams work together.
• Lead with behaviors grounded in Starbucks Mission and Values.
• Identify and communicate key responsibilities and practices that support a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results.
• Support implementation of enterprise programs, procedures, methods, and practices to promote Starbucks key messages and achieve a competitive advantage.
• Develop strategic and operational plans, manage execution, and measure results.
• Plan and manage processes and practices to ensure delivery of a world class cybersecurity program.
• Establish key performance indicators and proactively report stakeholder performance on cybersecurity activities and metrics, including related risk posture.
• Maintain metrics and clear communication on the state of the work group and associated programs.
• Partner with other teams to continuously improve and advance the organization’s operational security capabilities.
• Define, build, and operate application security, vulnerability management, and red team operation programs.
• Build and lead a team that supports one another, fosters belonging, and succeeds together.
• Challenge and inspire the team to achieve world class results, support career growth, and make effective staffing decisions.
• Oversee training and development for partners directly and indirectly managed, and ensure effective staffing decisions.
• Define and maintain processes, procedures, and expectations for work group support responsibilities, and ensure appropriate support documentation exists.

Planning and execution

• Plan and manage processes and practices to deliver a world class cybersecurity program.
• Establish key performance indicators and proactively report cybersecurity performance, metrics, and related risk posture to stakeholders.

Technical design and implementation

• Own metrics and clear communication on the state of the work group and associated programs.
• Partner with other teams to continuously improve and advance operational security capabilities.
• Define, build, and operate application security, vulnerability management, and red team operation programs.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience working in an information technology discipline.
• 8+ years of experience in cybersecurity.
• 8+ years of experience leading and developing highly performing teams.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
• Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CIPM, or others focused on cybersecurity, data privacy, or information risk management.
• Previous experience leading a red team function.
• Demonstrated ability to lead day-to-day tasks of diverse teams while influencing senior leadership.
• Demonstrated ability to develop teams and mentor staff.
• Proven ability to manage and facilitate annual operating budgets and strategic planning.
• Proven ability to thrive in ambiguity.
• Excellent problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Solid business acumen.

Compensation

USD 205,500 - 342,500 per year

Vacation accrual (by location)

If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, vacation time starts at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.
