Deputy Superintendent for Cybersecurity Law & Policy
Job Description
Lead cybersecurity legal and policy work supporting the State of New York Financial Services Department’s mission to protect consumers and industry through Part 500.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of attorneys and staff within the Cybersecurity Law & Policy Unit
- Drive development and implementation of policy initiatives designed to promote compliance with Part 500
- Draft and contribute to cybersecurity guidance, alerts, and advisories for Department-regulated entities
- Facilitate external educational seminars and speaking engagements with trade associations and other stakeholders on Part 500, the Cybersecurity Division, and Department work
- Oversee and perform legal research and analysis to support legal and policy recommendations
- Support cybersecurity-related incident investigations and enforcement actions as needed
- Assist with incident investigation, enforcement support, and drafting and negotiating agreements with regulated entities as needed
- Oversee revisions to Part 500 and the regulatory amendment process, as needed
- Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures for the Cybersecurity Law & Policy Unit and the Cybersecurity Division
- Coordinate with the Department’s Office of General Counsel and other Department staff
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Admission to a state bar in good standing for at least 14 years
- Admission to the New York State bar within one (1) year of selection
- At least 8 years of specialized experience in one or more of the following:
- Cybersecurity and/or Privacy Law
- At least 8 years of specialized experience in one or more of the following:
- Regulatory compliance
- At least 8 years of specialized experience in one or more of the following:
- Investigations and regulatory enforcement
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to write clearly on complex issues
- Knowledge of cybersecurity and information technology concepts
Salary & Location
- Location: Albany, NY (onsite)
- Salary: USD 180,562 - 223,625 per year (salary commensurate with experience)
- Downstate adjustment: Additional $4,000 annual for positions within the New York City metropolitan area, as well as Suffolk, Nassau, Rockland, and Westchester Counties

- Incumbent serves at the pleasure of the appointing authority
