Job Description

Kirkland & Ellis is looking for a Cybersecurity Engineer II in Austin, TX (onsite) to design, implement, and optimize security technologies and controls that protect systems, data, and users. The role brings operational ownership across PKI, endpoint and cloud security, identity protection, and security operations, with the opportunity to collaborate closely with IT, architecture, and product teams.

What you will do

  • Own the digital certificate lifecycle, including discovery, issuance, renewal, monitoring, revocation, and automation, while administering Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and Microsoft Active Directory Certificate Services (AD CS).
  • Administer enterprise encryption key management platforms and Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) to support secure key generation, storage, rotation, archival, and destruction.
  • Design, implement, maintain, and continually improve security controls across network, endpoint, cloud, and identity through monitoring, tuning, and automation.
  • Improve visibility and response by optimizing Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR), SIEM, DLP, CASB, and related security platforms.
  • Detect security gaps, control weaknesses, and misconfigurations, then lead remediation initiatives with long-term solutions that strengthen the overall security posture.
  • Contribute to security initiatives as a partner to IT, architecture, product, and project teams to support secure onboarding and integration of applications and platforms.
  • Advance secure endpoint and identity practices by collaborating with infrastructure and business teams to improve protection of critical systems and data.
  • Create and maintain security standards, engineering patterns, and baselines aligned with NIST and CIS.
  • Strengthen security operations using scripting and workflow automation, telemetry optimization, and continuous process improvement.
  • Support team growth through mentoring, documentation, reusable solutions, and technical guidance for less experienced engineers.
  • Act as an escalation point for complex security issues, contributing to incident response readiness, runbooks, and on-call support processes.
  • Research emerging security technologies and recommend solutions that improve operational efficiency and reduce organizational risk.

What you bring

  • 3+ years of experience; 5–8+ years of IT experience with 3–5+ years in cybersecurity engineering or a closely related security-focused role.
  • Advanced experience in digital certificate lifecycle management, PKI, Microsoft AD CS, encryption key management platforms, and HSMs.

  • Deep understanding of authentication, federation, conditional access, privileged access management, and modern identity platforms.
  • Experience implementing and supporting cloud security controls, particularly within Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Entra, with knowledge of Zero Trust principles and secure architecture practices.
  • Ability to improve security operations through automation using PowerShell, Python, and Kusto Query Language (KQL).
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical and security issues across multiple systems, platforms, and teams.
