Associate Cybersecurity Engineer

The Associate Cybersecurity Engineer supports the implementation, monitoring, and ongoing improvement of security controls designed to protect Dutch Bros systems, data, and people. This hybrid role focuses on security tooling operations, alert handling, vulnerability remediation tracking, and close collaboration with IT and engineering to maintain secure configurations.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the deployment, configuration, and day-to-day health of security tooling, including SIEM, endpoint protection, email security, and identity and access management.
• Monitor and triage security alerts by performing initial investigation, documenting findings, and escalating potential incidents to senior engineers.
• Support vulnerability scanning and remediation workflow by tracking fixes with system owners and helping verify that updates are applied and effective.
• Partner with IT, engineering, and business teams to apply secure configurations, support access reviews, and remediate identified risks.
• Contribute to security awareness efforts and support adoption of secure practices across the organization under guidance from senior team members.
• Stay current on emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and security best practices to continuously improve your approach.
• Participate in knowledge sharing, tabletop exercises, and training sessions to build competency in security tooling and incident response.

Required Background

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (cybersecurity, information technology, computer science, etc.) or equivalent hands-on experience preferred.
• 0-1+ years experience in a cybersecurity, IT, systems, or network role, including internships or lab/home-lab experience.
• Working knowledge of core security concepts: CIA triad, common attack techniques, defense in depth, and least privilege.
• Exposure to security tooling such as SIEM, EDR, vulnerability scanners, email security, or identity and access management platforms preferred.
• Familiarity with Windows, Linux, macOS, networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, VPN), and cloud platforms (AWS or Azure) is a plus.
• Familiarity with scripting or automation (Python, PowerShell, Bash) is a plus.
• Good communication skills, including the ability to explain security risks and requirements to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, adaptability, ability to multitask, and critical thinking.

• Required to be in office 4 days per week (Mon to Thurs); Fridays are optional remote work days.

Physical Requirements

• In-office environment: must be able to work in a busy, crowded, and loud office with frequent distractions and interruptions.
