Associate Cybersecurity Engineer
Job Description
This Associate Cybersecurity Engineer role helps protect Dutch Bros systems, data, and people through security tooling support, monitoring, and continuous control improvement.
Responsibilities
- Support deployment, configuration, and day-to-day health of security tooling including SIEM, endpoint protection, email security, and identity and access management
- Monitor and triage security alerts; conduct initial investigation, document findings, and escalate potential incidents to senior engineers
- Assist with vulnerability scanning; track remediation with system owners and help verify fixes are applied and effective
- Partner with IT, engineering, and business teams to apply secure configurations, support access reviews, and remediate identified risks
- Support security awareness efforts and promote secure practices across the organization under senior team guidance
- Stay current on emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and security best practices to improve approach over time
- Participate in knowledge sharing, tabletop exercises, and training to build competency in security tooling and incident response
- Collaborate in-person, including occasional impromptu in-person meetings
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (cybersecurity, information technology, computer science, etc.) or equivalent hands-on experience preferred
- 0-1+ years experience in a cybersecurity, IT, systems, or network role, including internships or lab/home-lab experience
- Working knowledge of core security concepts: CIA triad, common attack techniques, defense in depth, and least privilege
- Exposure to security tooling such as SIEM, EDR, vulnerability scanners, email security, or identity and access management platforms preferred
- Familiarity with operating systems (Windows, Linux, macOS), networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, VPN), and cloud platforms (AWS or Azure) is a plus
- Familiarity with scripting or automation (Python, PowerShell, Bash) to reduce manual security work is a plus
- Good communication skills; ability to explain security risks and requirements to technical and non-technical audiences
- Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, adaptability, multitasking, and critical thinking
- Security certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Network+, SSCP, or cloud security fundamentals are a plus or willingness to obtain

Physical Requirements
- In-office environment: ability to work in a busy, crowded, and loud office with frequent distractions and interruptions
- In-person collaboration required, including occasional impromptu in-person meetings
- Adaptability to typical office conditions (air conditioning, heating, artificial lighting, varying noise levels)
- Mobility: ability to sit, stand, reach, twist, stretch, and work at a desk for long stretches; occasional ability to move or lift office items up to 25 pounds
- Hearing must be sufficient or correctable for clear understanding of spoken information, including virtual meetings and phone calls (hearing aids or assistive devices acceptable if needed)
- Reading and writing proficiency in English for processing documents, drafting reports, and following up on actions
- Vision adequate or correctable to perform essential duties, including reading documents on a computer screen
- Technology proficiency with computer and office productivity tools (printers, scanners, collaboration software)
- Effective verbal and written communication for interactions via email, video conferencing, and in-office tools
