Job Description

At Walmart, the Staff, Application Security Engineer within Product Security helps embed strong protections into the software you rely on every day. This onsite role in Bentonville, Arkansas focuses on advancing security automation and governance across Walmart’s developer workflows, defining secure architectures and configuration standards, and ensuring audit-ready validation across the entire application ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with technology and business stakeholders to weave security early into the product lifecycle, drawing on proven experience and enthusiasm.
  • Define and govern secure architecture patterns, configuration standards, and enterprise control logic to enable scalable security validation across applications.
  • Develop deep knowledge of products and platforms to supply secure-by-default implementation guidance.
  • Design and validate automated control logic that yields defensible, risk-aligned validation outcomes.
  • Exhibit strong expertise in threat modeling, security testing, and code reviews, collaborating to accelerate priority business initiatives.
  • Evaluate and operationalize SAST and SCA outputs to ensure accurate risk detection and reduce misconfigurations.
  • Serve as a trusted partner for technology and business teams by securely enabling initiatives through architecture and configuration reviews.
  • Map security controls to applicable compliance frameworks and ensure validation outcomes produce reliable audit evidence.
  • Build strong collaborative partnerships with stakeholders to securely accelerate time-to-market for the business.
  • Provide secure design, development, implementation, sustainment, and governance expertise across the application lifecycle.
  • Document product security standards, validation logic, and governance decisions for transparency and reuse.
  • Develop and refine metrics to measure the effectiveness, accuracy, and coverage of automated product security controls.
  • Mentor teammates and stakeholders to advance secure engineering maturity across the organization.
  • Communicate effectively through written and verbal channels to convey security concepts and status updates.
  • Support Walmart’s priority business and technology initiatives through scalable, automated security governance.
  • Reduce manual and inconsistent security reviews by embedding secure standards and validation logic into engineering workflows.
  • Collaborate on global solutions that help customers Save Money and Live Better.
  • Apply deep expertise in OWASP risks, secure coding patterns, and threat modeling to define secure-by-default standards and reason about tradeoffs.
  • Governing secure architecture and configuration baselines across enterprise environments, including authorization models, database hardening, and input validation frameworks.
  • Design and validate security controls, map them to compliance frameworks, and produce defensible audit evidence.
  • Align technical security decisions with enterprise risk modeling and risk acceptance frameworks.
  • Approach complex technical challenges with a collaborative mindset to scale priority initiatives.

Requirements

  • Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, information systems, cybersecurity, or related field, plus 4 years of experience in application security or a related area at a technology, retail, or data-driven company.
  • Option 2: 6 years of experience in application security or a related area at a technology, retail, or data-driven company.

Salary Ranges

  • Bentonville, Arkansas US-10735: The annual salary range is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00
  • Herndon, Virginia US-10710: The annual salary range is $132,000.00 - $264,000.00
  • Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses
  • Additional compensation for certain positions may also include stock
