Senior IT Specialist - Information Security (InfoSec)
Job Description
Work at the Supreme Court of the United States as a Senior IT Specialist focused on Information Security, supporting the Office of Information Technology (OIT) and helping protect Court information systems. This role is built for professionals who want to shape security practices, maintain compliance with established policies and standards, and advise on risk across one or more critical systems. The position is located in Washington, DC (hybrid), with full-time hours and an excepted service appointment type.
As the primary security advisor and accountable official for assigned Court information systems, you will help ensure systems operate at an acceptable risk level and in full alignment with Court information security policies and standards. Top Secret (TS) clearance is required as a condition of continued employment.
Responsibilities
- Develop, coordinate, implement, and maintain standards, procedures, and technical solutions to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information systems and data.
- Serve as the primary security advisor and accountable official for one or more Court information systems.
- Ensure assigned systems maintain an acceptable level of risk and operate in full compliance with Court information security policies and standards.
- Acquire and retain a Top Secret (TS) clearance as a condition of continued employment.
- Provide guidance to senior staff and perform a full range of tasks involved in developing, coordinating, implementing, and maintaining security-related standards, procedures, and technical solutions.
Requirements
- Able to acquire and retain a Top Secret (TS) clearance.
- Employment is subject to successful completion of a security background check.
- If applicable, certify Selective Service registration or exemption for male applicants born after December 31, 1959.
- At least two years of experience as an Information Systems Security Officer or Security Control Assessor, plus two additional years of applicable IT or information security experience.
- Knowledge and experience implementing industry cybersecurity frameworks and concepts, including Risk Management Framework, DISA STIGs, CIS Benchmarks, ISO 27001, ATT&CK framework, and ISO/IEC 15026-2.
- Knowledge of network protocols such as TCP/IP, along with common application protocols and ports.
- Experience developing, managing, and implementing contingency plans.
- Experience in asset management and configuration management.
- Experience protecting Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
- Ability to develop, implement, and maintain Information System ATO package artifacts, including System Security Plans (SSP), Security Assessment Reports (SAR), Plans of Action & Milestones (POA&M), Risk Assessment Reports (RAR), Configuration Management Plans, Contingency Plans, and Privacy Impact Assessments (PIA).
- Knowledge of IT security principles and methods, including firewalls, demilitarized zones, and encryption.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to create, manage, and prioritize tasks.
- High level understanding of operating systems such as Windows and Linux/Unix and command-line tools (desired, not required).
- Strong customer service skills.
- Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word proficiency required.
- Ability to function as a team player in a fast-paced, team-oriented office environment.
- Ability to configure, update, and troubleshoot cellular devices and peripherals.
