Security Engineer (Linux Systems Engineer)

Navy Federal Credit Union is hiring a Security Engineer to support Advanced Cyber Initiatives, partnering closely with Platform Engineering leadership and Information Security teams to deploy and maintain enterprise security applications. This onsite role helps keep high-security platforms running through monitoring, patching, hardening, troubleshooting, and lifecycle tasks such as TLS renewal and audit support.

You will work in an environment that emphasizes operational rigor and structured delivery using Agile and Kanban, while contributing to internal documentation and daily operations briefings. Coverage includes an on-call and after-hours rotation and accountability for work tracking, ticket triage, and quarterly access reviews.

Responsibilities

• Maintain IT and enterprise-class security applications and systems
• Troubleshoot Linux and/or Windows server operating systems and the enterprise applications running on them
• Deploy, optimize, and maintain enterprise security applications across on prem, SaaS, and IaaS
• Remediate vulnerabilities on Windows and/or Linux systems, ensuring stability through monitoring, maintenance, and patching
• Deploy and configure SaaS enterprise applications
• Support deployment of AI, agentic solutions, and ML/LLM capabilities for modern security threats
• Contribute to internal engineering documentation, including tool documentation, lessons learned, procedures, and status updates
• Renew and update TLS certificates for appliances and enterprise applications
• Respond to audit and enterprise hardening requests
• Update stories and subtasks for work in flight and participate in Daily Operations briefings
• Monitor the daily ticket queue for incidents and work ingestion, assigning as required
• Own quarterly access reviews
• Participate in an on-call and after-hours rotation
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Extensive hands-on experience automating or scripting server configurations and deployments
• Extensive hands-on experience patching and upgrading Linux and Windows operating systems, packages, and applications
• Extensive hands-on experience in enterprise high-security systems engineering or similar work, with familiarity in best practices for security and hardening, ideally with PCI-DSS and/or NCUA
• Experience with AI, Agentic solutions, and ML/LLM in practice and/or deployment
• Scripting experience in one or more: Ansible, Python, Bash, PowerShell, Ruby, etc.
• Experience and thorough understanding of SSO/SAML/OAUTH integration for enterprise applications
• Strong ability to troubleshoot common Linux distributions (CentOS, Red Hat, Ubuntu, and/or Cisco derivative OS) or strong ability to troubleshoot Windows server operating systems
• Experience working with change management, problem management, configuration management, and project management processes
• Hands-on Agile experience, specifically Kanban workflow
• Experience using or integrating tools with SIEMs
• Experience operating in environments requiring ticketing, coordination, and detailed change management and control processes
• Knowledge of core network concepts (firewall, routing, switching, load balancing, proxy principles) and troubleshooting from a server deployment and maintenance perspective

Desired Qualifications

• Experience with cybersecurity applications
• Experience with Linux-based Java/Tomcat COTS web applications in a clustered environment
• Experience with Windows .net-based IIS COTS applications in a clustered environment
• Experience with physical or virtual appliances with limited Linux-based OS CLI interfaces
• Ability to read and understand a packet capture
• Experience using Jira and Confluence

Additional Information

• Salary: USD 99,400 - 155,850 per year
• Schedule: Monday - Friday; hours are flexible within core office hours of 7:00AM-6:00PM ET
