Job Description
Meta’s Security Foundations team is hiring a Security Engineer Lead to scope, design, and advance security solutions used across the company. This role establishes technical direction across multiple security domains, tackling cross-domain challenges such as agent identity and authorization, and clearly presenting the security and operational tradeoffs to senior leaders.
The position is based in Washington, DC as onsite work, with a salary range of USD 271,000 - 347,000 per year.
What you’ll do
- Set technical direction for security solutions and shared platforms, partnering with Security Engineering, Security Analyst, and Software Engineering teams.
- Identify the highest-risk items across relevant security domains company-wide, then lead development of detailed threat models and corresponding solutions.
- Define standards for how AI agents are identified, authorized, and audited across Meta infrastructure, addressing a gap where neither existing industry practice nor human-centric models are sufficient.
- Balance security outcomes with friction and cost so the organization can move quickly while maintaining strong controls.
- Drive solution design, including technical architecture, and lead implementation when required.
- Build partnerships across security, infrastructure, corporate engineering, and legal, translating ambiguous business and regulatory requirements into clear tradeoffs between securing the company and its users and avoiding unnecessary slowdown.
- Present those tradeoffs credibly to senior leadership, including VPs and C-level executives such as the CTO and CISO, to support decision-making.
What you bring
- Deep technical expertise in at least one of the relevant domains, plus the ability to become credible quickly in unfamiliar areas.
- Significant experience driving large cross-company engineering initiatives.
- Experience managing security risk and navigating tradeoffs between security controls and friction in a large organization.
- Ability to communicate and influence across functions to drive security solutions to completion.
- Capability to operate in high-ambiguity environments, balancing solution design with complex business processes and requirements.
- Hands-on engineering experience and the ability to lead across a blended Security Engineering and Software Engineering organization.
Technologies you’ll work with
- Active Directory
- Linux
- Windows
- SOX
- SOC 2
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with identity and access management, cryptographic systems, and massively scaled infrastructure.
- Experience securing AI/ML systems or agentic workloads.
- Familiarity with SOX, SOC 2, or comparable control frameworks and the engineering work required to meet them.
- Experience leading security efforts spanning both production (Linux) and corporate (Windows, Active Directory, SaaS) environments.
