Security Engineer II, Security Incident Response Team (SIRT)
Job Description
Amazon.com Services LLC's Security Incident Response Team is seeking a Security Engineer II for an on-site role in Arlington, Virginia. The position focuses on responding to security incidents, analyzing threats, and engineering security solutions to safeguard Amazon's systems. This role involves coordinating cross-team responses and shaping preventive measures to reduce the likelihood of repeat events. The compensation ranges from USD 159,300 to 202,400 per year.
Responsibilities
- Respond to security incidents and coordinate a unified response across multiple Amazon teams.
- Provide security engineering solutions and support during customer-facing incidents, while proactively aiming to prevent similar events in the future.
- Develop pragmatic approaches that satisfy business requirements while maintaining an acceptable level of risk.
- Identify and propose enhancements to strengthen Amazon’s incident response capabilities.
- Collaborate with and mentor Information Security engineers to improve security posture and rapidly address risk.
- Assess the impact of current security trends, advisories, publications, and academic research, and coordinate appropriate responses across affected groups.
- Keep skills up to date with the evolving threat landscape.
- Participate in a follow-the-sun on-call rotation.
Requirements
- At least two years of hands-on experience scripting, programming, and security code review in a common programming language (non-internship).
- At least two years of troubleshooting systems issues, log analysis, or automating routine tasks using command-line tools (non-internship).
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field, or equivalently 2+ years of IT security experience.
- Knowledge of industry-standard security vulnerabilities and remediation techniques.
