Operational Technology (OT) Security Engineer

The Operational Technology (OT) Security Engineer will apply OT security approaches to existing OT systems and networks, support OT security standards, and help manage Windows Active Directory and OT endpoint and network monitoring for National Fuel Gas Company.

Compensation

Base Salary: USD 62,500 - 90,000 per year

Exempt positions may be eligible for an Annual Cash Bonus Plan.

Role Responsibilities

• Apply current Operational Technology (OT) security methods, practices, and technologies to existing OT systems and networks to support appropriate security and risk mitigation.
• Provide and implement security standards for Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Distributed Process Control systems (DCS), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), OT network monitoring, and Historian data logging/reporting.
• Manage Windows Active Directory for the Support Laptop Domain.
• Provide OT support and endpoint management for OT controls laptops used by engineers and technicians.
• Maintain multiple Golden Images by patching, updating, and resolving software program conflicts.
• Use computer imaging software to restore Golden Images on various hardware.
• Install, maintain, and support OT network monitoring devices across the NY and PA territory.
• Maintain and support the OT network monitoring Central Management Console (CMC).
• Develop and use metrics to support an effective cybersecurity program.
• Implement and take responsibility for end-to-end cybersecurity programs with a focus on IoT/OT execution and delivery.
• Develop mitigation, remediation, and ongoing oversight programs to address OT information security risks.
• Track, categorize, and catalog known exceptions to the OT information security control environment and ensure compensating practices are implemented.
• Participate in the incident response program for timely identification, response, and remediation of OT-related information security incidents.
• Assist in developing comprehensive incident response playbooks for clear articulation of processes, roles, and responsibilities within the OT environment.
• Develop resiliency in OT security operations to maintain ongoing processes during a cyberattack.
• Coordinate with government, professional, and industry groups and consortiums to support a diverse and well-understood approach to OT information security operations.
• Engage with third-party partners to validate that the OT information security program mitigates potential risk and supports recovery at National Fuel.
• Maintain flexibility for hours and day travel to company facilities and project sites throughout Western NY and Northwest/Central PA, with a company provided vehicle.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related field.
• Experience administering Windows Active Directory (AD), Group Policy Object (GPO), and Windows Server Update Services (WSUS).
• Experience supporting Windows-based environments, including patching, updates, and endpoint management.
• Experience supporting OT network monitoring, data communications, networking, and VPN technologies.
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Controls, Automation Engineering, and associated software programs.
• Familiarity with PLC programming and HMI-based control systems.
• Experience or familiarity with HMI software applications and Historian data logging systems.
