Online Application Security Professional

Secure admissions and enrollment need thoughtful identity verification, clear processes, and responsive applicant support. In this hybrid role with University of Colorado Boulder in Boulder, Colorado, you will help maintain a reliable and compliant pathway for students applying to CU Boulder online programs, with a focus on fraud mitigation, export control compliance, and applicant troubleshooting.

What your key responsibilities will be

You will help establish and maintain secure operations for online enrollments across CU Boulder, staying current with relevant industry standards and ensuring alignment with applicable federal regulations. You will also support an efficient applicant experience by serving as the primary responder for emails received through the general application inbox.

• Maintain identity verification processes for applicants and enrollees using approved institutional procedures and technologies, collaborating with additional team members as needed
• Review and authenticate Tier 1 government-issued identification from both U.S. and international applicants
• Review and authenticate Tier 2 (secondary) and Tier 3 (supplemental) documentation when required, for U.S. and international applicants
• Conduct identity verification interviews via secure video conferencing platforms such as Zoom when needed
• Document the campus review process for international applicants
• Apply established identity verification standards consistently, without bias, denying cases that do not meet requirements and routing exceptions through appropriate channels
• Support export control compliance by following applicable federal regulations and institutional policies governing access to university resources and technologies
• Track, review, and report application and enrollment trends to identify suspicious activity and discrepancies that may indicate fraud, escalating concerns as appropriate
• Maintain documentation of identity verification activities while protecting sensitive personal and institutional data
• Connect with a diverse, global applicant population regarding identity verification requirements and outcomes, along with general application questions
• Collaborate with Enrollment Management, Academic Affairs, Campus Security, Information Technology, University Counsel, Export Controls, and other university partners to support secure and compliant admissions processes
• Maintain confidentiality of student records in compliance with FERPA and university information security standards
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support security, compliance, and admissions operations

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, or equivalent professional experience
• At least 2 years of experience working in higher education admissions, enrollment management, compliance, security, export control, or other governmental offices
