Job Description

The Mainframe Cybersecurity Software Engineer role at Motion Recruitment in Plano, TX (onsite) focuses on secure software engineering and the modernization of a low-code application generation platform. The position combines hands-on mainframe work on z/OS with security engineering that extends across distributed systems and multiple programming languages.

Role Focus

This role is designed for engineering leadership rooted in secure development practices. You will contribute directly to application work while supporting security engineering efforts, with collaboration that includes customer interaction, mentoring, and technical leadership.

Responsibilities

  • 75% hands on development and security engineering
  • 25% customer interaction, mentoring, collaboration, and technical leadership
  • 35% COBOL development
  • 30% C development
  • 20% Java development
  • 15% security engineering, TLS, and authentication technologies

Core Requirements

  • Strong background in secure software development and secure coding practices
  • 12+ years of software engineering experience
  • Expertise developing enterprise applications on z/OS and mainframe platforms
  • Strong programming skills in COBOL, C, and Java
  • Experience modernizing legacy applications while maintaining security and reliability
  • Knowledge of authentication, authorization, cryptography, and secure application architecture
  • Experience implementing secure communications and TLS-based solutions
  • Understanding of hybrid environments spanning mainframe and distributed systems
  • Strong troubleshooting and software design skills
  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Customer-facing consulting, training, or presentation experience
  • Conference speaking or technical evangelism experience
  • Experience helping enterprise customers implement security best practices
