It Specialist (Infosec)
Job Description
This role delivers and maintains secure, high-availability IT and cloud solutions for the VA, protecting mission-critical systems and supporting Veterans as a Supervisor IT Specialist within VA Infrastructure Operations.
Responsibilities
- Act as the COMSEC Manager, overseeing the installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of PKI and encryption systems to support VA missions across on-premises and cloud environments.
- Apply networking concepts and security methodologies to support secure system integration, implementation planning, and lifecycle management of classified materials and encrypted assets.
- Administer the acquisition, control, distribution, and accountability of classified COMSEC equipment, materials, and keying devices, ensuring compliance with agency procedures and regulatory documents.
- Advise senior management on risk levels, security posture, and compliance issues related to the use, processing, storage, and transmission of secure data and classified information.
- Conduct inventories, manage secure documentation, and report discrepancies for all COMSEC equipment and materials in accordance with agency policies.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to establish and maintain continuity of operations programs, disaster recovery strategies, and mission assurance plans related to cryptographic security.
- Install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain customer hardware, software, and network devices, ensuring confidentiality, integrity, and availability in line with information assurance policies.
- Develop and update customer support and IT security policies, procedures, and standards, as well as maintain tracking and resolution databases for incident management.
- Conduct systems security evaluations, audits, and reviews; participate in network and system design to ensure compliance with security policies and best practices.
- Deliver training to personnel in proper COMSEC procedures and use of related equipment, and promote organization-wide security awareness, ensuring user compliance with established cybersecurity policies and standards.
Requirements
- Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-12 in the normal line of progression for the occupation. This includes comprehensive work in both System Administration and Networking, demonstrating advanced knowledge and technical proficiency in configuring, managing, and troubleshooting enterprise IT environments.
