IT Specialist

U.S. Naval Intelligence Activity is hiring an IT Specialist (INFOSEC) at the GG-13 level to help protect cyber environments at the Hopper Global Communications Center in Suitland, MD. This National (MD) onsite role supports the planning, deployment, and continuous improvement of cyber protective tools and security solutions, with a federal benefits package available based on position type and appointment status.

Salary: USD 132,751 - 181,428 per year

What you will do

• Install, configure, administer, maintain, and tune a multitude of cyber protective tools.
• Create content and correlate events to mine data for overlooked attack vectors and unknown vulnerabilities using custom scripts or GUI interfaces.
• Perform digital forensics to identify security and/or policy violations.
• Support project management by coordinating with other departments and external companies to shepherd procurement.
• Handle the full lifecycle for new or replacement cyber security solutions, including planning, design/development, integration/testing, installation, and documentation.

Required qualifications

• Must be a US Citizen.
• Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
• Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
• New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
• Obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).
• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required; the position is subject to random testing.
• Acknowledge in writing acceptance of an appointment in the DCIPS (excepted service), which does not confer competitive status, prior to appointment.
• Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
• This position is designated as a Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce position; obtain and maintain the credentials described in SECNAV M-5239.2 for specialty area 511 level 02 within 12 months of appointment.
• Travel from the normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS may be required, including remote or isolated sites; ability to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods is required.
• A 2-year DCIPS trial period may be required.
• This position may be subject to polygraph examination.
• Shift work may or may not be required, including 24-hour/7-day operations with rotating shifts from 9 to 13 hours.

• Plans, acquires, installs, and maintains complex IT systems across varied platforms, ensuring interoperability, optimizing data transfers, and managing the data lifecycle (storage, transmission, quality assurance) to meet operational requirements.
• Oversees security architecture, cloud security, DevSecOps, and OS/Network administration; assesses vulnerabilities, reviews risk assessments, and ensures compliance with certification and accreditation standards; conducts digital forensics across devices and memory storage.
• Diagnoses and resolves complex hardware, software, and network issues; advises users; conducts interviews to define technical requirements; provides ongoing guidance to resolve processing problems.
• Evaluates and recommends new IT commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) products and methodologies; interprets IT policies; implements scripting and automation to enhance system operations and capabilities.
