IT Cybersecurity Specialist (INFOSEC)

IT Cybersecurity Specialist (INFOSEC) based onsite in Washington, DC, supports the Office of Management and Budget in implementing strategic multi-agency cybersecurity priorities.

Responsibilities

• Develops cybersecurity policies and programs through collaboration within OFCIO, other OMB offices, the Office of the National Cyber Director, the National Security Council, the Department of Homeland Security, the National Security Agency, and interagency working groups.
• Conducts in-depth analyses to support budget, legislative, and regulatory policy related to information security.
• Coordinates incident response across agencies for major cybersecurity events.
• Provides subject matter expertise in areas such as threat hunting, cloud security engineering, AI-enabled software vulnerability analysis, network engineering, software security analysis, secure software development practices, open-source software security, risk management, agentic and traditional red teaming and penetration testing, and automation of security operations.
• Briefs OMB leadership on cybersecurity challenges, policy, and threats.
• Serves as a desk officer responsible for direct engagement with an agency's CIO and team to oversee oversight and support implementation within their IT portfolio.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship or national status is required.
• Selective Service registration is required for males born after December 31, 1959.
• Subject to pre-employment and random drug tests.
• Participation in the direct deposit pay program is required.
• New Executive Office of the President employees must pass E-Verify employment verification.
• May be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
• Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty; failure to do so may result in withdrawal of the job offer.

• This is a Drug Testing Designated Position (DTDP) under the Executive Office of the President Drug-Free Workplace Program.

• One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-13 in the federal service or private sector demonstrating:
  • applying IT principals, concepts, methods, and practices to provide technical recommendations and oversight of threat analysis to minimize the impact of threats and risk on mission operations;
  • developing key performance indicators to measure cyber defense efficacy;
  • assessing IT security programs to improve policies and plans for IT security.
• One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-14 in the federal service or private sector demonstrating:
  • providing technical advice, guidance, and recommendations to management and other technical specialists on critical IT security issues;
  • evaluating IT security programs to improve policies and plans for IT security systems that minimize IT vulnerabilities;
  • applying IT principals, concepts, methods and practices to provide technical recommendations.
