Job Description

The US Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) is hiring for an IT Cybersecurity Specialist role within the Cyber Excepted Service (CES) under 10 U.S.C. 1599f. This position is located at the DISA Field Office, supporting the US TRANSCOM Support Division, and it requires TS/SCI clearance eligibility as a condition of employment.

Based on the requirements of DoD 8140, the assignment is also subject to specific qualification timelines for Foundational Qualifications and Residential Qualification completion. The role is onsite in Scott AFB, IL, with a salary range of USD 109,137 to 141,880 per year, which may include a Targeted Local Market Supplement (TLMS) as applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Use analytical processes to support planning, design, and implementation of new and improved information systems aligned to customer organization business requirements.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to staff on information management (IT) issues that affect entire organizations or major components.
  • Conduct needs analyses to define opportunities for improved business process solutions; consult with customers to identify and specify requirements; develop functional and systems requirements and specifications.
  • Manage a specialized systems software technology area, including database management and life cycle development systems, covering application design and development and management of information as a resource.
  • Deliver technical advice and guidance to multiple agencies or organizations within the agency regarding specialty areas and automated data processing technical policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Selective Service: Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.
  • Security and suitability: Requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance as a condition of employment; failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.
  • Clearance: Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI).
  • DoD 8140 timelines: Complete Foundational Qualifications in 9 months and Residential Qualification requirements overall in 12 months.
  • Drug testing: Drug test designated position.
  • Experience competencies expected: Attention to Detail; Customer Service; Oral Communication (briefing mid-level management and IT staff, including communication to non-technical audiences); Problem Solving (identifying alternatives by gathering and applying information from multiple sources).
  • Qualification standard for GG-13: Resume must describe at least one year of experience demonstrating the competencies necessary for immediate success.

Additional notes and eligibility

  • This position is in the Cyber Excepted Service and does not convey eligibility for conversion to the Competitive Service.
  • Appointment type may be excepted if you are a current Federal Career/Career-Conditional employee.
  • A three-year trial period may be required if you have not previously completed a trial or probationary period in excepted or competitive service.
  • A 3-year probationary period may be required to evaluate fitness and whether continued employment advances the public interest.
