Job Description

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is seeking an FBI Special Agent with cybersecurity and IT expertise to support investigations involving information security and threats to public safety. This onsite role in Springfield, IL emphasizes cyber defense capabilities, including encryption, threat detection, and vulnerability analysis.

Salary

Annual Salary: USD 103,236 - 133,200

Salary is commensurate with base, locality, and availability pay.

Education

Minimum Education: A master’s degree or higher from a U.S. accredited college or university.

Summary

This FBI Special Agent position focuses on investigating cybersecurity-related violations of federal laws and threats to public safety. The role centers on protecting national security through cyber defense practices, including encryption, threat detection, and vulnerability analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct investigations of potential violations of federal laws, cybersecurity, and public safety.
  • Apply judgment, resourcefulness, and versatility to meet investigative demands.
  • Develop and maintain effective liaison relationships with federal, state, local, tribal, territorial, and international law enforcement agencies.
  • Maintain a level of physical fitness to support readiness for law enforcement duties.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain a Top Secret Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) Clearance.
  • Must be willing to travel as required.
  • Must meet the FBI’s Employment Eligibility requirements.
  • Must hold a master’s degree or higher from a U.S. accredited college or university.
