Engineer III, Security Engineer
Job Description
Verizon seeks an Engineer III, Security Engineer to join the GN&T Network Security Defense team. The role centers on Enterprise Access, asset discovery and inventory, continuous monitoring, threat detection, and applying Network Security Fundamentals to strengthen security posture across Core, Edge, and Access networks.
Responsibilities
- Discover, identify, and audit inventory of all network assets and asset information (model, version, etc.) within your area of responsibility.
- Leverage routing, switching, and network architecture expertise to build a deep understanding of assets and the roadmap, quickly assessing vulnerability impact and identifying End-of-Life/End-of-Support hardware and software.
- Assist in developing a baseline of normal operations and implement threat detections to alert on deviations, proactively identifying potential cyber threats.
- Lead and assist daily operations with team members and platform owners regarding network security of owned assets, including running scans, monitoring, creating dashboards, and utilizing automation and scripting where appropriate.
- Help develop incident response protocols to rapidly identify, contain, and resolve network security incidents and threats.
- Understand the current state of cybersecurity and improve security posture through Network Security Fundamentals such as Access Management, Situational Awareness, Configuration Hardening, and Vulnerability Mitigation.
- Own and maintain the network security scorecard, driving increased maturity, visibility, and subject-matter expertise.
- Ensure that planned security controls for the Networks operate effectively.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or three or more years of relevant work experience.
- Three or more years of relevant work experience, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.
- Experience with networks, 4G/5G wireless network functions or virtualization technologies like OpenStack and Kubernetes.
- Experience with Bash Shell scripting, Python or relevant scripting and automation knowledge.

Salary and Location
Location: Basking Ridge, NJ hybrid
Salary: USD 81,000 - 155,000 per year
Note: Salary may vary by location and confirmed job-related skills and experience.
Work Arrangement
In this hybrid role, you will have a defined work location that includes working from home and a minimum of three days per week in the office, as determined by your manager. Employees are responsible for complying with hybrid work policies.
