Cybersecurity Systems Engineer (Level 3/4)

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is hiring a Cybersecurity Systems Engineer Level 3/4 to support cybersecurity work in San Diego, California. This onsite role focuses on evaluating software and hardware for vulnerabilities, building automation to streamline cybersecurity activities, and resolving complex technical issues that impact security and authorization outcomes.

In this position, you will apply cybersecurity concepts to analyze systems, run both automated and manual assessments, and produce the technical artifacts needed for Air Force authorization decisions.

What you’ll do

• Solve complex technical problems that involve cybersecurity concepts.
• Review and assess results from static code analysis.
• Complete Cybersecurity Impact Appraisals/Evaluations for hardware and software projects.
• Generate and maintain appropriate artifacts used in Air Force authorization decisions.
• Perform system vulnerability scans using tools such as ACAS and STIGs.
• Conduct manual STIG / SRG verifications on disparate equipment types, including collecting and evaluating findings.

Minimum qualifications

• STEM education requirement: Bachelors degree, Master’s degree, or PhD.
• Relevant experience options:
  • Bachelors in STEM with at least 5 years of relevant military/professional experience, OR
  • Master’s in STEM with at least 3 years of relevant military/professional experience, OR
  • PhD with at least 1 year of relevant military/professional/academic experience.
• Additional experience options:
  • Bachelors in STEM with at least 8 years of relevant military/professional experience, OR
  • Master’s in STEM with at least 5 years of relevant military/professional experience, OR
  • PhD with at least 4 years of relevant military/professional experience.
• Experience in cybersecurity.
• Ability to obtain or maintain a U.S. Government Secret clearance or higher (background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled in Continuous Evaluation).
• Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance within a reasonable amount of time based on business needs.

Preferred qualifications

• CSSLP, CISSP, CEH, or Security+
• Foundational knowledge and experience with core systems engineering principles, including:
  • Requirements development, allocation, and traceability
  • Verification and validation planning and execution
  • Engineering Change Processes
• Experience performing cybersecurity impact assessments during design changes, capability upgrades, and/or baseline reviews.
• Experience performing system vulnerability scans using tools such as ACAS and automated STIG tools such as Evaluate STIG or Security Compliance Checker.
• Experience with networking technologies, including router and switch configurations, troubleshooting, and security/vulnerability assessments.
• An active U.S. government Secret clearance or higher (with background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
