Cybersecurity SME (Zero Trust)

Kavant Solutions is hiring a Cybersecurity SME (Zero Trust) to support a federal cybersecurity modernization initiative. This remote role focuses on hands-on Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) guidance across identity, network, device, application, and data, helping teams translate security standards into practical controls and documented recommendations for government stakeholders.

What you’ll do

Serve as a technical authority for cybersecurity best practices and compliance requirements in a federal environment, with a specific focus on integrating Zero Trust into existing infrastructure and operational workflows.

• Advise on cybersecurity controls, standards, and compliance frameworks including NIST 800-53, FISMA, RMF, and FedRAMP as applied to federal systems.
• Provide guidance on the adoption of Zero Trust principles across infrastructure and identity and access management capabilities.
• Evaluate current security posture against Zero Trust maturity models (such as CISA ZTMM) and develop remediation roadmaps.
• Support Authority to Operate (ATO) packages, security assessments, and continuous monitoring activities.
• Collaborate with ICAM, network, and cloud teams to align cybersecurity controls with Zero Trust objectives.
• Create technical documentation, briefings, and recommendations for government stakeholders.

Requirements

• 7+ years of cybersecurity experience, including federal or government environments.
• Demonstrated experience implementing or advising on Zero Trust Architecture initiatives.
• Strong knowledge of NIST SP 800-207 (Zero Trust Architecture) and NIST 800-53 controls.
• Experience with RMF, FISMA, and ATO processes.
• Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, IT, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Relevant certification such as CISSP, CISM, or similar.
• Security clearance requirement to be confirmed based on contract or task order.

Location: Remote (remote)
Salary: USD 125,000 - 160,000 per year
