Job Description

Robert Half is hiring an experienced Cyber Security Engineer for an onsite role in Midland, TX. This position focuses on strengthening enterprise security across a complex environment by combining security architecture, operational defenses, and incident response leadership. You will help guide security engineering improvements spanning identity and access, vulnerability management, and detection and threat hunting.

Compensation: USD 140,000 - 175,000 per year.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and continuously improve enterprise security solutions across network, endpoint, cloud, and application environments.
  • Own the security engineering roadmap, including technical standards, reference designs, and maturity goals for the cybersecurity program.
  • Deliver day-to-day technical leadership by mentoring and guiding security engineers and analysts across multiple security disciplines.
  • Assess, implement, and optimize security platforms and tools, including managing vendor relationships and performance expectations.
  • Lead identity and access security efforts, covering architecture planning, privileged access controls, conditional access approaches, and least-privilege enforcement.
  • Oversee the vulnerability management program: define scanning methods, prioritize remediation by risk, track service levels, and coordinate penetration testing.
  • Serve as a senior escalation resource for complex investigations and major security events, driving containment, recovery, and post-incident review.
  • Improve detection engineering and threat hunting by incorporating intelligence into defensive monitoring and response strategies.
  • Develop, refine, and enforce cybersecurity policies, hardening baselines, and control requirements to raise enterprise-wide protection.
  • Communicate security risks, program progress, and incident status to technical stakeholders and leadership teams.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of experience in cybersecurity engineering or a closely related field, with demonstrated technical leadership responsibility.
  • Bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity, information technology, computer science, or another relevant discipline.
  • Strong hands-on background in cybersecurity engineering, including identity and access management, vulnerability management, and security operations.
  • Experience with firewall technologies, Microsoft Defender, configuration management, and system hardening practices.
  • Practical knowledge of incident response processes, threat analysis, security mitigation techniques, and investigation support.
  • Familiarity with recognized cybersecurity frameworks and standards used to guide enterprise security programs.
  • Ability to use scripting or automation tools such as PowerShell or Python.
  • Clear communication skills across technical teams, business stakeholders, and leadership.
