Job Description

At The MIL Corporation, a System Security Engineer supports Naval Aviation acquisition programs from our Lexington Park, Maryland location, working onsite at Patuxent River. The role centers on system security engineering, cyber resiliency, vulnerability research, testing, and the design of protective architectures to safeguard complex weapon systems and related infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Leverages engineering methods to explore and evaluate military weapons systems across their lifecycle, including analysis, planning, design, development, implementation, testing, and evaluation.
  • Reviews and drafts engineering analyses, technical reports, change proposals, and related documentation.
  • Utilizes systems engineering expertise to perform system integration, configuration management, QA testing, and acquisition/resource management activities.
  • Analyzes and develops software, components, or systems that meet engineering or functional requirements of military weapons systems, associated support systems, or management information systems.
  • Participates in identifying weapon system critical program information and assessing potential consequences of compromise.
  • Performs critical analysis and modeling of proposed architectures.
  • Documents protective architectures.
  • Develops and advocates contractual requirements in support of developmental programs.
  • Facilitates evaluation of weapon system architectures for compliance with protection standards.
  • Coordinates with program offices, services, Joint and DoD agencies to ensure system horizontal protection requirements are met.
  • Supports the Navy Verification & Validation team in assessing system designs and solutions.
  • Assists with program risk management, mitigation, and reporting.
  • Facilitates cross-team communication to share information, address issues, and accelerate development pace.
  • Acts as a Technical Review Board member for systems events, providing SSE expertise.
  • At journeyman level, duties are typically performed independently.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years of recent, relevant experience in systems engineering, including Systems Security Engineering roles.
  • Experience developing Program Protection Plans and associated artifacts.
  • Experience developing and understanding aircraft network architectures.
  • Knowledge of identifying, formulating, designing, and testing practical engineering solutions and guiding complex system development.
  • Experience applying systems engineering methods and tools in weapon system development.
  • Hands-on knowledge of systems engineering, SSE, and cybersecurity related to weapon systems and platforms.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering processes and applications.
  • Understanding of the DoD systems acquisition life cycle.
  • US citizenship is required; current Top Secret clearance with the ability to obtain/maintain Top Secret/SCI clearance.

Education

  • BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university in Aerospace, Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Software, Network, Cyber Security, Systems Engineering, or related fields. A master's degree may be considered in lieu of two years of experience.

Clearance

  • Current Top-Secret clearance with the ability to obtain/maintain Top-Secret/SCI clearance; the process considers financial background aspects.

Citizenship

  • US Citizenship required

Travel

  • 10 - 15% travel to other sites, as needed

Compensation

  • Projected salary range: $70,000 - $104,000 per year.
  • Final salary is determined by qualifications, education, experience, and contractual considerations.
