Security Engineer, Ring Application Security
Job Description
This Security Engineer role focuses on Ring Application Security, combining application analysis, proactive vulnerability response, and security engineering to protect Amazon services. The position is based in Austin, TX and includes onsite collaboration to support application security reviews, testing, and automation.
Role Overview
You will analyze and secure applications and services, identify security issues, and drive remediation. The work includes building security automation, reacting quickly to emerging threat scenarios, and supporting security engineering efforts across reviews, penetration testing, and security tool and metrics development.
Responsibilities
- Analyze the security of applications and services; discover, address, and help resolve security issues
- Build security automation to improve response speed and consistency when new threat scenarios emerge
- Develop solutions to complex business problems by selecting appropriate technologies and applying security engineering best practices
- Serve as a mentor to more junior engineers and provide security thought leadership for the organization
- Perform application security reviews
- Conduct penetration testing
- Support projects and research work as needed
- Provide security training and outreach to internal development teams
- Create and maintain security guidance documentation
- Contribute to security tool development
- Deliver and continuously improve security metrics
- Assist with recruiting activities and perform related administrative work
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of programming experience in Python, Ruby, Go, Swift, Java, .Net, C++, or a similar object-oriented language
- 2+ years of scripting, programming, and security code review experience in a common programming language (non-internship)
- 2+ years of troubleshooting systems issues, analyzing logs, or automating basic tasks using command line tools (non-internship)
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) or experience in IT Security
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of any combination of: threat modeling, secure coding, identity management and authentication, software development, cryptography, system administration, or network security
- Knowledge of networking protocols including HTTP(S), DNS, and TCP/IP
- Experience with AWS products and services
- Experience performing security activities across one or more phases of the SDLC, such as security design review, threat modeling, secure code review, and security testing

Compensation and Location
- Location: Austin, TX (onsite)
- Salary: USD 159,300 - 202,400 per year
