Research Security Analyst
Job Description
Support the protection of research and the academic environment through risk analysis, compliance monitoring, and actionable recommendations.
Responsibilities
- Support development and implementation of a comprehensive, integrated research security program to protect critical research.
- Help secure the academic environment from undue foreign influence.
- Assist with implementation of NSPM-33, Texas HB-127, and Texas GA-48 requirements.
- Coordinate program initiatives and priorities with the Program Manager, Research Security.
- Conduct OSINT reviews in response to entity check requests from Legal, Strategic Industry Ventures, Office of Technology Commercialization, and other internal departments.
- Use analytical skills and independent judgment to assess research security risks.
- Facilitate research security risk reviews for new faculty hires.
- Perform risk reviews tied to federal and state funded awards.
- Support research security assessments for international travel and other activities when appropriate.
- Conduct research security reviews of faculty and researcher international outside activities.
- Identify, evaluate, and mitigate institutional risks related to external engagements.
- Support compliance with university, state, and federal regulations, policies, and requirements for U.S. government research funding.
- Maintain awareness of evolving research security program requirements and best practices.
- Participate in national research security discussions and professional networks.
- Monitor changes in federal and state regulations and agency policy interpretations.
- Deliver informed analysis and recommendations based on emerging research security trends.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree
- Two (2) years of experience in sponsored research, conflicts of interest, research integrity, international relations, or national security.
Preferred
- Experience in counterintelligence, supply chain security, security clearance, risk assessments, executive briefing, intelligence analysis, due diligence, investigations, procurement oversight, and/or regulatory review.
- Experience conducting OSINT research, evaluating third-party entities and vendors, assessing FOCI (foreign ownership, control, or influence) risks, and interpreting federal and state regulations related to research funding and supply chain security.

Compensation
- Minimum: USD 88,000 per year
- Midpoint: USD 110,000 per year
- Maximum: USD 132,000 per year
Critical Infrastructure Screening Requirement
- This position may involve maintaining the security and integrity of critical infrastructure as defined in Section 113.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code.
- Routine reviews and screening may be required.
