Job Description

Kearney & Company is hiring an IT Cybersecurity Senior Consultant to support a high-visibility federal CFO office in Springfield, VA (onsite). This role combines standards-based security advisory work with hands-on support across authorization, continuous monitoring, risk management, and incident response activities within federal compliance frameworks.

Compensation for this position is USD 103,000 - 180,000 per year. The firm also offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, life, AD&D, and disability coverage, retirement planning options, wellness support, and paid time off.

What you’ll do

  • Conduct research and ongoing monitoring of relevant standards, policies, and guidance to generate recommendations for integrating security expectations into project execution
  • Identify and monitor risks across project execution activities
  • Proactively support day-to-day task execution aligned to the project plan, ATO schedule, audit or assessment schedule, or customer direction
  • Build and maintain working relationships with system owners, system integrators, and technical federal points of contact
  • Provide technical expertise in system security and architecture in the context of applicable IT controls and functional and operational requirements
  • Develop and support implementation of IT and system-related policies and processes
  • Deliver innovative, tech-enabled recommendations to project leadership to improve solutions for customers
  • Respond to data calls from internal and external stakeholders
  • Create and manage Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms) as needed
  • Support OMB A-123 ITGC compliance efforts
  • Perform continuous monitoring activities
  • Develop and maintain Authority to Operate packages and other system-related documentation
  • Support or lead incident response and reporting for specified systems
  • Lead or support development and learning for junior team members

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, management, or another related field
  • Minimum 6 years of experience with federal systems and IT architecture
  • Familiarity with NIST standards, including NIST SP 800-53 Rev 5
  • Familiarity with FISMA and FISCAM
  • Experience preparing for and supporting federal IT audits and responding to audit findings
  • Experience creating and managing POA&Ms
  • Experience developing or eliciting technical and functional requirements for information systems
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts in business terms for management and senior leaders
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment without direct supervision
  • Strong analytical skills and listening ability, with capacity to coach and mentor others
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance (requires U.S. Citizenship)

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with, or certification in, Agile methodologies
  • Knowledge of federal travel systems and regulations
  • Supporting existing federal information systems IT remediation
  • Certification such as CISSP, CISM, Security+, or equivalent
