Senior Cybersecurity System Engineer

Overview

KBR’s National Security Solutions team delivers advanced engineering and technology solutions to customers in the intelligence and national security communities. In this role, you will support critical cybersecurity efforts that help protect national security interests.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical review of traditional and cloud-based DoD Information Technology (DoW IT) cybersecurity postures and produce executive-level reports and briefs for senior government leadership.
• Support the DoW CIO for cybersecurity operations, Risk Management Framework (RMF) implementation, system authorization and accreditation, vulnerability management, continuous monitoring, and regulatory compliance.
• Review DoW cybersecurity postures to systematically identify, mitigate, and manage risks using structured security frameworks while aligning operational strategies to legal, regulatory, and corporate policy boundaries.
• Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for Cross Domain Solutions (CDS), including Cloud Enterprise CDS within the DoD/DoW environment.
• Support execution of Raise the Bar compliance, efforts to eliminate and transition Point to Point CDS, and implementation of Defensive Cyber Operations for CDS.
• Manage the DoW Scorecard for CDS, including creation of briefs and development of Cloud CDS processes, CDS briefs, and updates to DoW leadership.
• Act as a Technical Advisor to DoW CIO voting members for the Defense IA/ Security Accreditation Working Group (DSAWG) and Information Risk Management Committee (ISRMC) governance boards, including preparation of briefs and support for meeting readiness with in-depth technical reviews of presented technologies and cybersecurity architectures.
• Serve as a technical member to the Cross Domain Technical Advisory Board and Information Domain Technical Advisory Boards.
• Conduct detailed DoW cloud compliance reviews, lead risk assessment approach based on the Secure Cloud Computing Architecture (SCAA) framework, and assist DoW organizations with cybersecurity engineering for IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS cloud environments aligned to DoW Instruction, Policy, and Security Requirements Guides, including Identity, Cybersecurity Service Provider Coverage, and Boundary Protections.
• Provide technical review and risk assessments for key DoW emerging technologies, including cloud IT projects, pilots driving Zero Trust, Software Defined Networking, and Cloud Edge Computing.
• Collaborate and communicate effectively, influence policy updates to enable new technologies and cybersecurity process improvements, and stay current with guidance including DODI 8010.01, DODI 8530.01, CSF 2.0, Cloud SRG, Cloud SCAA, National Cross Domain Strategy Management Office (NCDSMO) Guides, and DoD Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) Directive Memos.
• Apply familiarity with Identity, Credential and Access Management (ICAM), Comply to Connect, and OUSD(I&S) Collaboration Peripherals.
• Produce and refine Congressional reports and briefs in response to NDAA tasking to HASC and SASC, support DoW Instruction updates for publishing, and contribute to key DoW and CISO policy memorandums.
• Provide support and analysis for DoW representatives preparing for reviews and meetings.
• Assist with identifying programmatic budget shortfalls and prepare Issue Papers and coordination actions to remedy identified shortfalls.
• Participate in weekly meetings and prepare reports and briefings for senior-level leaders.

• Travel Requirements: Minimal (0-20%)

• Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40hrs

Required Qualifications

• 12 or more years of experience in DoD staff positions, military service and/or cybersecurity environments/organizations
• 4 or more years of experience crafting and developing DoD-level cybersecurity policies
• 8 years related experience plus a Master’s degree in a technical discipline OR 12 years related experience plus a Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline
• TS SCI is required
• US Citizenship is required

Desired Qualifications

• Familiarity with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Cybersecurity Framework (CSF) 2.0
• Previous experience within a major headquarters of DoD agency staff
• Ability to work with and appropriately protect classified and proprietary information
• Ability to work as a team player on a mixed contractor-government team
• Unflappable demeanor (keeps their cool under pressure)
• Excellent attention to detail and strong communication skills (requires direct contact with senior DoD leadership)
• Proficiency with MS Office applications including MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
• Experience using MS SharePoint

Compensation

The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities, and/or experience, considering internal parity.

Compensation range for Virginia: $165,000 to $185,000.

Additional Compensation

KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation. Additional compensation may include sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, short-term incentives, long-term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
