Onsite in Los Alamos, NM, this role supports fault-tolerant, reproducible computing environments for cybersecurity research. If you enjoy hands-on systems work, automation, and troubleshooting in a research setting, this junior technical staff position offers room to build and operate containerized infrastructure while growing into support for GPU-accelerated workloads.
Compensation for this position is USD 87,800 to 143,000 per year. The appointment is 1 year in continuous service for eligibility to apply for posted Laboratory jobs, and the work location is onsite with locations at management discretion.
What you will do
- Deploy and maintain containerized infrastructure and services
- Automate routine tasks to improve reliability and operational efficiency
- Track, investigate, and resolve infrastructure and service issues and alerts
- Identify and engineer new system capabilities to advance the computing environment
- Support advanced computing platforms while learning to manage GPU-accelerated workloads
What you bring
- Proficiency with Linux system administration and containerization
- Familiarity with open source monitoring and alerting platforms such as Grafana and Prometheus
- Understanding of general purpose programming using Python, Go, or similar
- Ability to learn complex and advanced computing systems
- Capability to identify and solve novel systems engineering problems
- Ability to work productively with research, development, operations, and management teams
- Ability to obtain a DOE Q/SCI clearance
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (Computer Science or related preferred) and minimum 2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Clearance and eligibility notes
- Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter.
- This position requires a Q clearance; obtaining it requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances.
- Dependent on the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens.
- Eligibility to obtain a clearance includes being at least 18 years of age and meeting citizenship requirements (U.S. citizenship required except in very limited circumstances).
Drug testing: A new-employment drug test is required. The Laboratory maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. While marijuana may be legalized under state law, use and possession remain illegal under federal law; a positive test for marijuana will result in termination of employment.
